Searching for music player for my M1 Macbook

Here’s the deal. I love music and listen to music while I am working on my computer, which is pretty much most of my time. Long time ago my main computer was a Linux machine. I have my music collection on external disks — 10 of them! I have moved most of them to a (smaller) NAS.

I love numbers and see statistics of my listening habit. I use last.fm to collect the data and produce stats. My music player must send data — scrobbling in last.fm terminology — of what I am listening. My Linux music player did that, but now since I am mostly on my Macbook I am looking for a similar setup.

Apparently, this is not as straight forward as I thought. Temporarily, I am using last.fm scrobbler with chrome. It will get data from my YouTube session and will try to detect if it is a song and will send the proper data. This is a bit flakey.

Now, I am in the process of adopting Navidrome. I’ve got some of my songs on a local server. It’s time to get a proper music player. The only music player for MacOS is sonixd. It is a bit flakey on my M1 Macbook. Not sure why. I have not had a time to tinker. It is sort of working but crashes / freezes a few time. I still cannot get last.fm scrobbling on this setup. If anybody has a pointer, let me know. Otherwise, I have to debug the whole thing and write my journey. But, this will take a longer time since I am (super) busy right now.

I guess, no scrobbling for the time being. aw. sucks.
