New Year. Same Old Problems
It’s the second day of 2025. I feel very optimistic about this year. After many scars left from COVID-19, economically we are getting better. I think my companies are back to 2019 situations, if not better. So this year, they have to be better. I know we are part of the lucky ones, who survived the pandemic.
While I am optimistic, there are still problems that were not solved in 2024. One of my problems is with my disk or storage shortage. As of now, my Macbook’s disk is already at 94%. Usually when it hits 80% I already upgrade my disk, but this M1 Macbook Pro could not be upgraded. My option would be to buy an external disk. But that would mean I have to carry that portable disk around. Another option would be to wipe clean my Documents and Download folders. I don’t like this. If I have to select which files to keep and to delete, it would take me years to do it. My time is more expensive than that. If only I can upgrade this Macbook with bigger disk.
I already have 1 TB storage in the cloud, but it is inconvenience if I don’t have access to the internet. Or if the internet is slow. In my neck of the wood, digital divide is real. We still have many blank spots or slow internet connection. I am using cloud just for cold backup.
The some problem exists on my mobile phone. It’s already nagging with messages that I should clean my storage. I already have 128 GB storage on my phone. What’s taking the space? Those videos and photos from WhatsApp groups. (I already set WhatsApp to only download when I choose to, but for some reasons sometimes it doesn’t work. Maybe I reset it to automatically download photos and videos. I need to re-check this again and again.) I may also the problem in this case. I take too many photos. In the old days, when we wanted to take photos with our camera we had to make sure that the photos are “perfect”. We had limited film and we had to develop those photos. There was cost in it. Now, I just take 10 photos for one pose. I can choose one that’s the best and delete the others. It’s not happening. I ended up with those 10 photos. In my case, data is not oil. Data is junk.
I think this problem will persist in 2025. There are more problems like this. I just need to accept them.
Welcome 2025.
